Real life has been keeping me busy...

...but I found some time to make some things for my dollhouse bathroom today. The photo shows a hair dryer and curling iron. I also made deodorant, a razor, toothbrush, toothpaste and a hair brush today.
I spent some time on a nautical swap for Small World today, too. I can't post that photo for a long time, though. I'm just glad I was finally able to come up with a couple of ideas. The theme had me stumped for awhile.

More progress on the house

Wallpaper and floors are finished in the kitchen and living room. I do still need to varnish the kitchen floor. The back edge trim is also in place in this photo.

Living room border in place. I went with the pointing up option. The discoloration in the middle of the wall is not there in real life.

Light olive kitchen walls with the fruit border.

A dry fit of the roof.

My new dollhouse

I started my Mother's Day dollhouse today. I got enough built to see that the rooms are large enough for what I need. Even the upstairs is tall enough! I got the living room wallpapered and set the furniture in to see what it's all going to look like.

Wallpaper preview

I've printed off all of the papers and sealed them and thought you all might like to see a preview.

The living room walls have a subtle cream and beige stripe and I think I'm going to make a rug from the real sized wallpaper sample shown. It has all of the colors that will be throughout the house and I need to have some red in the living room.

The border for the bathroom is white magnolias on a red background. I'm also planning to use this paper, the border and a red background floral in the bedroom to tie everything together. The floor in here is also a real size wallpaper sample. It's a dark olive marble with burgandy red running through it.

I have a fruit border for the kitchen so that Katie's pineapple dishes will fit in.

The kitchen kit came today but I don't want to get started on the cabinets until the house is built (and it hasn't come yet). I don't know if I will have to make alterations to make things fit.

I am making progress but now I really have to work on some new things for my etsy shop. Back to work...

Sample room settings

Probable plans for the Duracraft Brookfield:

I spent some time tonight with wood scraps making temporary mini rooms to see how my furniture and chandeliers are going to look together. This is just a rough idea and the ceiling is way too low but you do get the effect of a room.

The bathroom is going to be contemporary/romantic. Old fashioned tub but with chrome trim rather than brass, crystal chandelier but modern lights at the carved mirror, contemporary bowl sink and round vanity...I think it's going to look really pretty. I have a cream background with red flowers wallpaper in mind.

I really like the colors of the living room chandelier with the furniture. The green matches the interior of the hutch. This will look much better when there's a bit more clearance between light and flowers, lol. This room will have cream and gold striped wallpaper with a coordinating border and maybe a carved effect wainscot. I'm still thinking about that. Probably wood floor with an area rug.
The kitchen will be papered in a neutral check pattern with a fruit border. I think I'm going to do the cupboards in a sheer pearl finish with dark granite look counter. The floor will be terra cotta tile. All of this is open to change since I don't even have the kit yet but these are the plans in my head right now. I almost always have most of the furniture made and the decorating figured out before I even start building. The project goes really quickly then since I've already made a lot of the decisions. At this point, I have no idea how I'm going to finish the exterior. I also am going to want to do something different with the stairs as it is an ugly opened back thing. Looks more like basement steps than the main staircase.

Houses and bathrooms and more, oh my!

I am very excited! I am getting a DuraCraft Brookfield dollhouse from my hubby for Mother's Day and a RealLife Miniatures kitchen kit from the kids. I used the kitchen kit in a house I did in the early 90s and loved it. At that time you could still get it in mini stores. I've been trying to get one on ebay for the past year but kept getting outbid. Got it this time, though!
I'm planning to make this a very elegant little house. I'll be using the gold furniture I made for the living room and I redid this Dollar Tree bathroom set so it will fit in.
The tub was all originally the same red as the exterior. I've textured it a bit though and added the magnolias. The toilet was bright blue and had embossed hearts on the tank and lid. I sanded those off, painted the tub interior and toilet with a metallic pearl and then decoupaged magnolias on the tub, tank and lid. I used a silver paint pen to put a chrome finish on the hardware and feet of the tub.
I think I'm definitely getting my $1 worth!
