A change in plans and a scary boy

This is the change in plans. I decided to turn my knitting project into a purse so that I can make a wider blanket. The handles were given to me by my mom when she cleaned out her craft supplies. It's a great size and I love the finished bag. Tomorrow I can start a new afghan. :)
And this is the scary boy! My son is involved in our high school theater program. They are doing a haunted theater for the weekends in October to raise food and money for the local food bank. Adam leaves home looking like a normal teenage boy and comes home like this. I'll go next weekend but I've got to get someone to go with me. I don't like haunted anything, lol.

My latest non-mini project

I've finished my first large knitting project! This is a baby afghan I made for a very dear friend. It's actually knitted strips with crocheted borders stitched together and then I crocheted a border around the whole thing. I started the original afghan several months ago and the longer I knitted the more I hated it. So I finally ripped the whole thing out and started over. Not only do I like the way this looks, it took a very short time to make.
Here's a closeup of the crocheted edging and the knitted stripes - I love yarn that forms itself into stripes. It looks like I worked even harder than I actually did, ;).

I am excited!

My etsy shop has been doing fairly well these past couple of months and so I decided to treat myself to a few items for my log cabin. If rustic decor is your mini style, I encourage you to check out miniaturecabindecor4 at etsy.com. I just purchased a butter churn, a wooden treenware bowl and a lovely earthenware style jug. I will post photos of them in the cabin as soon as they arrive. :-)
Also, I now know how to knit and purl so I've started a skinny scarf for myself - knit about 4 rows, purl one just to add some texture. I love the colors in this yarn - there's green, a couple of shades of blue and a soft white all on the tan background. This scarf is my practice opportunity - a close friend just found out she's expecting and I want to try knitting a baby afghan rather than crocheting as I usually do. Wish me luck!

I'm not a "knit-wit" any more!

I been working on a new swap project for the past two days so I can't share photos of minis today. I can, however, show you that my knitting skills have improved. Now that I've kind of got it figured out I decided to make myself a scarf. I figure by the time I finish it I'll be more confident and can move from knit to purl, lol.

Have a great weekend everyone!

I'm not so sure about this...

I come from a long line of crocheters. My mom has done some beautiful work and my daughter is now better than I am (and I'm the one who taught her, lol.) I've never learned to knit but today I spent an hour teaching myself via About.com. I only need to know the basics well enough to fake it. Next weekend I'm playing a character in a mystery dinner. She owns a yarn shop and has her knitting with her wherever she goes. This sample will not earn any prizes (unless one is awarded for the worst knitting ever!) but it will work for my purposes. Maybe it gets easier over time but I think crochet goes so much faster.

Not much new on the mini front this weekend. My project for next week will be to start the dolls, I think.

Today I'm wearing my Peyton Manning jersey and I'm ready for the Super Bowl party later this evening. Have a great day everyone!
