Yo Ho Yo Ho...A Pirate's Life for Me

Here is how I used my last skeleton. If you look closely you can see his large gold earring and two gold teeth. He's holding a rifle in his right hand and a beer stein in his left. His parrot, Jack, sits on his shoulder. The parrot is an oversized resin bird repainted in parrot-like colors. You kind of have to use your imagination to see "parrot" but, hey, don't you have to use your imagination to see a skeleton as a pirate? :-)

I didn't have any striped fabric that was just right so I painted the fabric for his shirt. I used the sleeve from one of hubby's worn out undershirts so it's really soft and worn. I'm guessing the pirate is much more comfortable with that piece of rope as a belt than around his neck like it was when I bought him, lol.

The second installment...

Miss Skellie loves to take long bubble baths (maybe she stayed in too long this time!) She fills the tub with hot water and lots of bubbles, grabs her movie magazine and her shower pouf and she's ready to relax and exfoliate. (Maybe she just scrubbed too hard!?)

This is one of those projects that shows my slightly warped sense of humor. I'm not really "in" to scary, ghoulish Halloween things but Miss Skellie is just fun. The skeleton came in a package of four tied together to form a garland. I got the package for a dollar at the Dollar Tree. (I love that store!) These guys are harder to work with than the one I used for the doctor's office. There is less material at the joints so I couldn't just cut part way through and have the bones stay connected. I had to actually break the bones apart and reglue them into the position I wanted. Miss Skellie isn't very modest - it's a good thing there are all those bubbles!

I was just gonna give her the pink shower pouf and a pink towel but hubby didn't think that was enough to show that she was a girl. That's why she has the pink scarf on her head. I like that extra touch, though.

She looks so comfy that I might have to go take a bubble bath myself, lol.

I think it's finished!

Except for exterior trim and some sort of ceiling, of course. The interior is mostly complete, though. Mr. Smith is no longer "nekkid". To his right you can see the xray reader and the blood pressure monitor.

The cupboard is stocked with extra medical supplies. The soap and paper towel dispensers and round box of tissues are all near the sink. The small packets at the front edge of the sink are gauze pads still in the packets.

So sorry for the delay, Mr. Smith. Oops, maybe he had to wait a bit longer than the usual patient! This is a view of the entire office.

Progress!

The doctor's office has come a long way. The last time I posted I wasn't even sure what I was going to use for the structure but I raided my wood scraps and I have the basic room built. (I have a woodworking friend who saves his scrap wood for me. It's wonderful!)

Doreen suggested keeping the skeleton as the patient with a caption to the effect of "Sorry for the delay, Mr. Smith." I really like that idea so Mr. Smith will be getting a hospital gown later today. Forgive his "nekkedness" for now, lol. I still have a lot of equipment and supplies to make, too.

The doctor is in...I'm not so sure about the patient, though!

I made some progress on the doctor's office. I converted the table to an exam table, painted the cupboards, and made a rolling stool. I still don't have a room to put this stuff but I'm getting things organized.

The patient still doesn't look too good. Eventually, I want to make a stand for the skeleton and find a more alive looking patient, lol.
