Just relaxing

Tasha and her dog George (because he looks a bit like my childhood pet of the same name) are relaxing after their first public appearance at my church talent night. I love the look of wonder on children's faces when they see a dollhouse. Especially if it has lights. I always also get a few adults who don't understand why I play with toys but that's ok. It is hard to explain just how special this hobby is to someone. I am thankful for all of you who do "get it!"

Everybody needs a friend

Especially when you are a dog and don't have opposable thumbs. I decided today, after searching eBay yet again for the appropriate resident of the cottage, that the only reasons I didn't care for the Fisher Price doll were that her clothing was plastic and you could see the joints in her knees. So I made her a pair of khakis and a hoodie and pulled her hair back.

She looks much better and the dog has someone to feed it.

Now I just need to figure out their names...

Getting near the end

Remember I told you that the fireplace was still bugging me? Well, today I ripped it out and gave it a makeover. I painted everything but the granite and mantle black and trimmed the fire screen with antique gold. The top of the chimney breast got a bit of gold trim as well.
In the bathroom I added a little stool/table and filled it with toiletries - bath salts, shampoo, body wash, hairspray, nail polish, and lipstick.
The tray on the toilet holds earrings and bracelets.

i have talent night coming up at my church next month. I am planning to take my cottage farmhouse and the chicken coop. It is always fun to see the reactions as people find all the little details.

Have a wonderful week, my friends!

Still plugging away

My first project of the day was to work a bit more on that last stone wall. I divided some of the larger stones to make the wall more consistent with the others. Next up was a range hood. The base is the thin plastic container that my gift from AM came in. Then I just cut and glued balsa wood sticks to the plastic to get the size and shape I wanted. The trim at the bottom is narrow studded leather ribbon.

In the living room I did a little work on the fireplace. I am still not completely satisfied with it.

I made a little recipe box from the packaging my gum came in.

And here is the entire interior as it looks tonight. I am still in search of the perfect doll for this house.

I have no idea where this little house's spot will be. I still have a few larger pieces that are homeless.

Stay tuned. Hopefully there will be more progress to share soon!
