An experiment

My friend recently started weaving rugs. She made me this beautiful denim rug for Christmas. It looks great in my guest bathroom. The rug in front of the shower was a worn out green plush. I wanted to replace it with something that would look good with the denim rug. So...
I made this rag rug. I crocheted "braids" and sewed them together. It's a little wonky but I'm pleased with it. It's very comfortable to stand on.

Much better

I thought the wood needed to be a warmer color so I stained it maple today. The little table looks really nice, I think. I used a stain pen for the plastic legs. I also made the Tinker Bell rug and the pot of flowers. Everything should be kid safe and cozy for the dollhouse inhabitants. There's also an entertainment center for this room but I've already given it to my friend. It's a rustic green with Tink on the doors.

I'm a little goofy right now 'cause I printed all of the wallpaper and sealed it. I did it outside but I still inhaled far more than I should have. I can't the smell out of my nose, lol.

A very big day!

I am just now getting the chance to post for today. It's 11:36 pm here. I started the day by helping hubby with some tree trimming - major trimming. We got a good start on it but we now have a lot of wood to cut for various family members - we don't have anything that burns wood. Our silver maple tree had 6 trunks and DH has been wanting to cut that back for a long time. I've been resisting but it is now down to 3 and looks great, or at least it will after we take care of the three trees worth lying on the ground. After we wore ourselves out with the trees, we headed to town for grocery shopping and spent way too much! I don't think hubby is gonna be allowed to go with me anymore. :0) Once we got home and got everything put away, I went to the sewing room to make some mini candles. I got out my beads and my buttons in case I needed them for candle holders...and then I spent the next six hours sorting beads! I now have them organized by color and style. I've decided two things: 1. I have way too many beads! and 2. Never again will I dump beads willy nilly into a large ziploc - cheap plastic mixed with glass. Not all of the beads were that way, thank goodness. I have several bead organizer thingies - now they are better organized.I did have time to make a rug for the new dollhouse living room. My first attempt was following George the Mini Guy's instructions but I did not like the way my rug turned out. It ended up being a good thing, though, 'cause I found a wallpaper sample I liked better than the first one. Instead of a spray sealer, I used matte Mod Podge to adhere a single ply of a tissue and then stippled another coat on the top. After it dried, I made fringe from some cream ribbon. I think it turned out really well.

The country bedroom

Today's been a catch up day for household chores. The laundry piled up while I was battling the flu! So I haven't gotten to any minis today but I would like share a country style bedroom I made a couple of years ago. The quilt on the bed was the inspiration for this room. My friend, Tina, in the UK designed the quilt as a kit and needed some testers. I got to test the kit and ended up with this beautiful quilt. Tina wanted photos and I didn't have a bed on hand so I threw this one together with craft sticks. I ended up really liking it so I put it together for real and gave it a whitewash finish. The rest of the furniture in the room was made and/or finished to match. The armoire is a Michael's hutch but the rest of the furnishings were made from scratch. The vanity chair is one of my favorite items. I made it without any pattern or kit. I just used what I had on hand and I'm really happy with the result. The rug was printed onto a T-shirt transfer and then ironed onto the back side of camel colored corduroy. That gave a wonderful texture to the rug. The wallpaper came from Jim's Printminis - the colors coordinate perfectly with Tina's quilt. This room is a favorite - it looks like a place I could really be comfortable. There's even a mug of coffee and a copy of my devotional Bible on the stool next to the upholstered chair.
