New and Improved

First of all, Happy Father's Day to all the dads in blogland!

I made this wedding day set several months ago. It was cute but just not my best work.
I took the vanity, stool and screen apart and redid them all. The vanity skirt is more tailored.
I used wide ribbon for the skirt and a woven print ribbon for the bench and screen. The vanity top was faux finished to look like wood. I am so much happier with the finished set now.

Have a great day everyone! I'm waiting on a homemade pound cake to come out of the oven - yum! At least I hope so. :) It's a new recipe.

A wedding in the park

This is the wedding gazebo I mentioned in an earlier post. The actual gazebo is a real life bird feeder. There are many "firsts" for me in this display. My first polymer clay roses - on the cake, in the bouquet and the bride's headpiece, and the flowers vining up the sides of the gazebo. This was also my first wedding cake. I used various sizes of bottle caps for the cake layers. The cake table is my first attempt at pleating the cloth into soft folds. The area around the gazebo is my first attempt at landscaping.

The groom is an older doll given to me by my husband's aunt. I gave him a new white shirt, a tie and a boutonierre for his park wedding. The bride was sculpted and dressed by me.

This was a fun little project. One of my favorite things to do is to make over real life items.

Meet Rose's fiance

This is Michael. He's dressed for the wedding in a black tux with red vest and tie. Don't they make a cute couple?

Here comes the bride!

I messed up my back yesterday and couldn't sleep so I was able to finish my bride sooner than anticipated. I'm very happy with the finished doll. There are many details too small to see in the photos - "diamond" choker, earrings and engagement ring, blue garter, pearl pumps with silver trim, upswept hair with cascading ringlets.
I mixed Sculpey III with Kato polymer clay for this doll. It was easier to sculpt and smooth but I had some problems with cracking after baking and had to do some repair work. I guess I'll have just use straight Kato. It's stronger and has a slight sheen after baking that I really like. I'm just not good at sculpting and smoothing it yet.

This wedding scene demanded to be created!

I woke up with this idea in my head this morning and then spent the entire day working on it. I made everything - the vanity and stool, the dressing screen, the wedding gown, veil and undies, the flowers, and all of the accessories. I think the only thing I forgot was the garter, lol.

Oops, a correction. I didn't make the flowers but I did arrange them.

Suitcase Room

My favorite types of room boxes to do are the ones in unusual containers. My mom gave me this furniture set and I refinished it but I had no place to put it. I went looking around the house and spotted this make up case in my closet. I hadn't used it in years but it looked to be just the right size to hold the furniture. The only thing I'm not happy with is the amount of light but I have a solution for that. I just used an Aura-lite in my husband's radio room and it works wonderfully. I want to get one for this room, too. It's easy to install and provides just the right amount of light. I want to look at the hardware store this time because they are sold as under cabinet lights. I may be able to find it for less money there than through the miniature shop.

I redecorated in here last night. I like the new background and being able to have full pictures top and bottom.

I hope to get started on a new project soon. My son wants a cantina for his Star Wars figures. I've got to think some more about that one before I start.

Weddings on my mind

My daughter became engaged over Christmas and I've had weddings on the brain. Her wedding isn't for a year and a half but I've got a mini bridal shop I can play with in the meantime. Storybook Weddings Bridal Shoppe is located in a Greenleaf Storybook Cottage that I found already assembled in a local antique shop. I added the egg carton stonework on the exterior and did the interior decorating. I also made most of the fixtures and all of the dresses in the shop. Several dresses use bits of fabric from my honeymoon nightgown and robe. I have still have room for more gowns if inspiration strikes. The upstairs houses the sewing room the shop owner uses to create her lovely gowns. All of the designs are her original creations which makes her shop the one the brides frequent.
