Shedding some light on the subject

I had a migraine after church today and while I was trying to rest it away several ideas came to me. The first was using the last of the lights hubby bought me for the mid century modern brick house. I also wanted to hang a pennant I made yesterday while cleaning. I found a Cracker Jack baseball team sticker and turned it into a spirit pennant for Davy's room.
A narrow dresser/console in the upper hall holds a Tiffany style lamp with a pastel colored shade and a princess style phone. I think I need to add a ceiling fixture at the other end of the hall outside the bathroom door, too, but I really like how the lamp looks. Hubby says this photo looks like it could be a 1:1 house.
I put a two light wall sconce on the door wall in Davy's room and it makes a huge difference in the way this room looks. It's very warm and welcoming now.
I put the last of his gifts in the master bedroom. The simple ceiling fixture works. I may paint the brass later but it's fine for now.
Here's the whole house all lit up. I need a light for the dining area, too. It's very dark when the house isn't sitting out where we get a lot of natural light.
Here's my little sports pennant. I'm slowly but surely getting the rooms completely detailed. This is my favorite part.
The other idea that came to me while I was resting was to make some sort of attic access. The glue isn't dry but you get the idea. The attic floor side has the hinges and handle. All you see from the hall side is the frame for the opening.
The hall is still lacking some artwork or family portraits. The master bedroom could use a few more personal details, too. Overall, I think I truly am nearly finished - as finished as a dollhouse ever gets anyway.

Have a wonderful, blessed week, my friends!

Update: I found a photo a miniaturist friend gave me and framed it for the hall. You won't really be able to see it until I get another light but I know it's there, LOL.

Touching up on snow day#3

Today I concentrated on cleaning up little problem areas to make the house look more complete. The living room paneling had several areas that showed up white in photos. A little bit of paint with a fine tipped brush fixed that problem. Looking at the photo below, it looks like the area over the door could use a bit more paint. Well, almost fixed.

I added ceiling trim to the kitchen because all my wallpaper edges weren't straight. The trim is made from the plastic guards that come over windshield wipers. Cut them at the seam to make two strips of trim, paint the inside, and glue in place. Recycling at its best!
The cowboy room had a couple of small gaps that were easily fixed with a bit of trim.
The exterior paint work was touched up and sealed with a coat of matte Mod Podge.

Even though these weren't big projects, they were the kind of detail work that makes a mini home look more like a real one. Have a wonderful day, my friends!

Some days just don't go quite as planned

My planned task for today was to work on the exterior of the house after running a few errands in town. I ended up spending a good part of the day with Daughter#1 and running the errands. By the time I got home I didn't have time for starting a big project so I did a couple of smaller ones instead. The kitchen project was a very simple one. I put in the trim piece to separate the linoleum from the wood floor of the dining room. I also added yet another coat of paint to the stairwell wall and added a trim piece to cover a large slot in the stairwell where the two stories connect. I don't have a photo of that, though.
One of my stops while I was in town was Hobby Lobby. I bought an unfinished hutch and turned the top half into the bookcase for Davy's room. The top shelf will actually hold books. The other shelves showcase some of his favorite things.

If there's time tomorrow I really am planning to work on the exterior. I think it will go fairly quickly if I like the brick I plan to use. I guess we'll find out tomorrow!

Teacher In Service Day...

...is a lovely thing when you are an instructional assistant rather than a teacher. I got the day off so I conquered some of the household chores and spent time making the inside of the Westville look lived in. I know, I know, I said I'd work on the exterior today. There were just too many other fun things demanding my attention so the fun things won. ;-)
Pie from my friend, Brenda, recipes from pinterest, and I made the recipe box.

I made the lamps last night. Today I made books and the alarm clock. The drinking glass part of a pencil from the dollar store.

A closer view of the alarm clock - made from a hearing aid battery and a scrap of  wood.

The living room looks a bit more lived in, too.
Until I can find just the right cat, the scotty dog will fill the spot on the television.
Looks like it's game night at the Sherwoods. No wonder Davy is so excited to see Dad. The Monopoly game came from a printie I found on Pinterest. The Lone Ranger game was made from a photo of the vintage game. It doesn't open.
I found some of the things I'd purchased for Davy's room. The cowboy boots are buttons. The little blue house is from a Monopoly game. The fishing pole has been in my stash forever. The baseball, glove and bat were purchased for this project. I used permanent markers to spruce up the car and cannon game pieces. I still want to make a shelf for this room.

There is still room for more things to make this house look lived in but I'm running out of excuses to get started on the exterior. Hmmm, maybe I'll make that shelf now...

Shedding a little light on the subject

I didn't have a lot of time to mini today so I worked on a tray project (something I can do while sitting on the couch with a tray on my lap.) My little boy's cowboy room needed a table lamp. The Monopoly cowboy/horse piece was perfect for what I wanted to do. Hubby was not a fan of me using the one from our game so I bought a set of pieces from an Etsy seller. The other pieces will be used as toys in this project or in some future one. The first photo is my inspiration. The second is the lamp I made. I used a different shade that I found in a photo online.

Davy's Room

This room is mostly finished now. I still need to do baseboard, glue the door in place, and add a lamp, ceiling fixture, and toys and books and other little boy things.
This photo is without the door so you can see the window shutter. I decided on that rather than a curtain. I think I will add a small bookcase at this end of the room on the door wall. There's not really room for a desk but I can fit a bookcase in here.

The cowboy wallpaper came from Jennifer's Printables.

Head 'em up and move 'em out!

The boy's room in the Westville is going to be cowboy themed like many young boys enjoyed in the 1950s. Roy Rogers, the Lone Ranger, and cowboy movies made cowboys very popular. I used the above picture for my inspiration for a chenille bedspread.
This bed was my inspiration for the modifications I made to a traditional spindle headboard.
The headboard on the mini bed used to look like the back of the toy chest/bench with turned spindles. I cut the spindles out and cut down a wooden wheel I had on hand. The headboard isn't an exact match but I am very pleased. The bedspread was a bit more challenging. I used embroidery floss and cord to do all the curly lines and the horse shoe. I printed out copies of the spread in the correct scale and cut out the more complicated  elements like the cowboy on his horse and the boots. Then I used floss to go around the perimeter of the horse and to add dimension to a few parts of the rest. That was enough to make it look as though the whole thing was chenille. My base fabric is a very fine waffle weave left from a long sleeved T one of my daughters was throwing out several years ago. I don't have much left but it is cotton knit and drapes so nicely. I'm hoarding what I have left for projects like this one. ;-)
I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to make my idea become reality. I'm so excited with how it turned out!
